RIDE ON RIDE ON IN MAJESTY
WRITTEN BY: Henry Hart Milman in1827
This great Palm Sunday hymn was written by Henry Hart Milman who was an English clergyman and Dean of St. Paul's around 1820–1827. It famously highlights the paradox of Christ's humble entry into Jerusalem as both a triumphal king and a sacrificial victim, it's often set to the 17th-century German tune "Winchester".
The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest heaven!’” Matthew 21:9
