KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS

For those that know me well my sporting prowess is rather lacking. In fact it is safe to say that I don’t think that call up to the Olympics will be coming any time soon.
My highlight reel from sports days gone by from Primary and Secondary school would last minutes, if that. I’ve had starts where I have just fallen over. I’ve had times when, in the middle of a relay, I’ve dropped the baton and I’ll be honest I’ve lost count of the number of times that I dropped the egg.
There is one sports day at secondary school that will forever be etched on my memory. I was running the 100 metres and I was absolutely legging it. Forget Usain Bolt- it was nothing compared to the speed I was running. Things were looking so good- the gold medal was literally in my grasp when for just one moment I took my eyes off the finishing line and looked round. The next moment I was on the floor and scrambling to get home in last place.
We live in a world in which it is so easy to be distracted by so many things and yet in the race that God has marked out for us, we are called to fix our eyes on Jesus - the author and the perfecter of our faith. He is the finisher of our faith and the ultimate example.
As we embark on 2026, may we keep our eyes on Jesus for the journey ahead and as we do so, may we throw off everything that hinders and wholeheartedly follow him. For his glory. Amen.
