This is a copy of a picture painted by William Holman Hunt, it is called 'The Light of the World'. Who is 'The Light of the World" it is referring to?  It is Jesus.

Jesus is the light of the world as He brings light into darkness.  But this picture also brought to mind part of another verse from the bible.  It is Revelation chapter 3 verse 20:- 'Here I am!, I stand at the door and knock ...'.  Jesus is at the door and is knocking.  The question is what are we/you going to do about it?  The picture shows the figure of Jesus preparing to knock on an unopened and overgrown door.  The door has been likened to our hearts.  If you look carefully at the picture you will notice that there is no handle on the side of the door where Jesus is knocking.

Jesus cannot just come in - we only can invite Him in.  Illustrating that we are free to keep the door of our hearts closed, leaving Jesus on the doorstep or if we choose, we are free to open it and let Him enter into our lives.

Jesus stands at the door of our hearts and knocks, because our permission is needed.  He will not force His way in.  He wants it to be our choice.  We only can invite Him in by opening the door of our hearts on the inside.  He does not want to go against our will.  On the contrary His knocking will be a gentle tap.

Jesus is an imposing figure in the picture.  He may knock gently, but He will also knock persistently.  How long will He have to knock, before you answer?  Is He knocking in vain?

If you want to open the door of your heart and let Jesus in - then say this prayer and tell someone after that you have said it and meant it.  You can always contact us here at TIMC via our website and Facebook page too [@timc].

Let us pray:-

Lord Jesus Christ, I do hear you knocking and I invite you into my heart, mind and life.  I am truly sorry for the things that I have done wrong in my life - please forgive me.

I now turn from everything I know is wrong.

Thank you that you died on the cross for me, so that I can be forgiven and set free.  Thank you that you offer me forgiveness and the gift of your Holy Spirit.  Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.

Thank you Lord Jesus, Amen.
